No Time To Think By Hank Silverberg When I began writing this blog 20 months ago, my idea was to look at some events of a particular week, take some time to do some research and then provide some well thought out commentary on the week's news.  It hasn’t happened that way. Events are moving so fast, and there is little time to think about them before the next shell shock changes everything. This past week was a perfect example. Last weekend we got word that President Trump had made a cruel   and poorly thought out decision to pull U.S. troops out of northern Syria and abandon our long time allies, the Kurds.   It was an invitation for the erratic leader of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan,   to send troops into that area and chase out the Kurds, whose desire to create an independent Kurdistan has been a thorn in the side of the leaders of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran for decades  (see map).  The Kurds have been U.S. allies since the ...

I’m Tired By Hank Silverberg You know what? I am tired. Oh, I try to get enough sleep, but that’s not the issue. I’m tired of waking up every morning to some new revelation in the continuing investigation of our dysfunctional president. I’m tired of his lies, his attacks on anyone he doesn’t like or who criticizes him.   I’m tired of hearing journalists deliver their product with exasperation in their voices because they know they’ve been lied to again.     The country is getting tired too.   And it may be stressing Americans out. After all those years as a reporter, I tend to hold back on partisanship on most issues, but I have been unable to do that with Donald Trump. He is just so far off from what America is supposed to be that just the thought of another four years of this raises my blood pressure. But much of my opinion here is still based on facts. Breaking Up is Hard to Do By Hank Silverberg Another week goes by. Another week of revelations in the investigation of Donald J. Trump, which is so bizarre it doesn’t even have a name that ends in “gate.” Last week I wrote about the inability of anyone in the Republican party to openly call for Trump’s impeachment or even support the investigation into his behavior. Then came Trump’s White House driveway news gaggle in which he indicated he had asked China to investigate Joe Biden and his son, because Mr. Trump said he wants to do away with all corruption. Never mind that the allegations are nonsense.
